Each piece is layers of polyester stretch velvet fused to recycled, black industrial felt. Strips of sheer chiffon shift and add colors. Then, each piece is free-motion machine stitched with 100% black cotton thread. Next, holes are melted through the layers using two sizes of soldering irons. Finally, the work is subjected to the intense heat of a heat gun which melts away the felt that is between the polyester velvet shapes. Because the thread is COTTON ... a natural that doesn't melt ... the shapes are held together. Everyone asks about the "fringe". What is it? Just excess melted felt stuck in a line of stitching! Each framed work is just $395 plus South Carolina sales tax and shipping. I charge exactly what FedEx Ground charges me plus about $5 for the box ... basically, I round up to the nearest sensible amount which is close to $4 to $5.
