In Box Series....and Stained Glass Series by Susan Lenz

This blog was originally supposed to document all my "In Box" series pieces. I can't keep up with this idea....especially since the series spawned a related series, my "Faux Stained Glass" pieces. I now have representation at the prestigious GROVEWOOD GALLERY on the grounds of the historic Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. They actively sell these works.

This blog is now a "tool"..... a place to which I can refer interested clients and fiber artists wanting a step-by-step tutorial for making these unique pieces. It is also a tool for potential gallery representation ... something I'm really, really interested in developing. I'd LOVE a couple more galleries like the Grovewood Gallery to carry my work regularly. I'm extremely interested in developing a lasting, working relationship with art galleries all over the country.
The "How to Make an In Box" tutorial is HERE

THIS BLOG IS BEING UPDATED TO REFLECT THE WORK BEING SHOWN AT THE BUYERS MARKET, FEBRUARY 16 - 18 at the Philadelphia Convention Center.  This is a WHOLESALE only show.  Prices listed here are my RETAIL prices.  For wholesale pricing, please contact me directly.  Please scroll down to view the artwork.

WINDOW SERIES or ... "small, stained glass"

(Above:  Window L.  Unframed:  12 1/2" x 10 1/2".  Framed:  17 3/4" x 15 3/4". Retail price:  $295, framed.  Click on any image in this blog post to enlarge.)

(Above:  Twelve completed "Window Series" pieces unframed.  Of the twelve, the following are still available and going to the wholesale-only Buyers Market trade show in Philadelphia, February 16 - 18th.  Row 1: #3 and #4; Row 2: #1, #2, #3; Row 3: #4 (Left to right).  Click on image to enlarge.  Of course, all these basic designs can be ordered.  When ordering, only the basic design will result.  Color selection and the shapes filling the basic outline will uniquely vary.  No two are ever alike.

Each Window Series piece is stitched to acid-free Edelweiss linen mat board which is placed inside a 3/4" oatmeal-colored linen liner.  The liner is fitted into a distress black frame with a small gold lip (pictured above).  Plexiglas is put between the liner and frame ... assuring space so that the artwork does not come into contact with the glazing material.  The framed dimensions are 17 3/4" x 15 3/4".  The retail price for each Window Series piece is $295.  Window I was the winner of the 2011 Niche Award for Decorative Fibers.  Window XXXIV is a 2013 finalist in the same category.  Below are other "windows" that will be going to Philadelphia.

Large Stained Glass Series

(Above:  Five large "Stained Glass" pieces in frames.  All five are headed to the Buyers Market of American Craft wholesale trade show in Philadelphia, February 16 - 18, 2013.  Click on image to enlarge.)

I am taking a total of six large faux-stained glass fiber pieces to the wholesale trade show.  The first five are pictured in their frames above ... under Plexiglas.  Below are the same five ... in the same order ... but only shown with the black linen liner around the Edelweiss linen mat board on which the work is stitched.  Each framed piece measures 43 1/2" x 23 1/2".  The artwork is approximately 57" x 17".  The retail price, including framing but excluding packaging and shipping, is $1250.

Lancet Windows

(Above:  Eight Lancet Windows, framed at Mouse House shortly after they were created.  31 1/4" x 11 1/4".  Retail price $375.  Click on image to enlarge.)

Of the eight pieces above, only four are still available and going to the Buyers Market of American Craft Wholesale trade show, February 16 - 18, 2013.  From left to right, the ones available are:  3, 4, 5, and 6.  Each Lancet Window is stitched to off-white, acid free mat board and framed using a 3/4" wide distressed gold frame that is 1" deep with black sides.  (Photo above)  The retail price, excluding packaging and shipping is $375.

Lunette Windows

(Above: Lunette I and Lunette II. Framed: 23" x 29".  Click on image to enlarge.  Retail price excluding packaging and shipping $550.)

The Lunette Windows are the newest of the faux-stained glass fiber pieces developed by Susan Lenz.  They were created in response for a horizontally oriented artwork.  Each piece is stitched to an off-white, acid free mat board and framed with a slightly distressed, 1 3/4" wide black picture framing moulding with a distressed gold lip.  The depth of this moulding is an impressive 1 3/4".  Black "walls" are fitted into the lip of the frame to create dramatic space between the Plexiglass and the fiber artwork.

Lunette III was envisioned as a horizontal but can be rewired to hang as a vertical.

Medium and Large "In Box Series" pieces for Philadelphia

(Above:  In Box XCII.  Framed:  35 1/2" x 23 1/2".  Click on image to enlarge.)

The medium sized and large sized "In Box Series" pieces are stitched to a piece of Edelweiss colored, acid-free, linen mat board and mounted into a 1" linen liner.  Around the liner is a slightly distress black frame with a gold lip.  Plexiglas is positioned between the frame and the liner assuring that it never comes into contact with the artwork.  The retail price of the medium sized "In Box Series" is $625.

The large sized "In Box Series" measures 43 1/2" x 23 1/2" and retails for $750.  For some unknown reason, I don't have a photo of the one going to Philadelphia ... but it looks pretty much the same as the medium sized piece above ... just vertically longer.

Both sizes are wired for vertical hanging but can be rewired for a horizontal presentation.

Small "In Box Series" pieces

These "In Box" Series pieces are framed with a distressed 3/4" wide dark gold moulding that is 1" in depth with black sides.  (Photo of picture frame moulding shown below.)  The piece is stitched to a warm off-white, acid free mat board.  Black spacers fill the frame's interior lip to keep Plexiglass from coming into contact with the fabric.
